Hunting ATVS?

Anyone got pics of using their ATV for hunting season? I know Shaggy frowns on "kill shots" or otherwise distasteful pics but I'm sure there are some pics of using your ATV to haul in tree stands or haul out nice kills, without getting gruesome. This weekend around here they're having a special split season private land-only doe hunt, hope to get some pics of setting up stands and maybe bringing one out! Post em if you got em!

I don't have any pics, but I've used a Polaris Ranger to haul several deer back to camp.

I haver been hunting in years. We always just used a truck. But I was just a young kid back then.

My brother-in-law's '01 450 Foreman helped me get this 7 point out of the most impossible-to-reach place, thanks to a 300' long rope! B-I-L rode the 4wheeler while I just kept the deer's head up to keep it from getting hung up on brush and logs. It was UNREAL how deep and impassable the hollow was.

Had a great day yesterday, stopped counting the number of deer I saw at 10. Got 2 shots with the bow but the wind was unbearable. Any field hunting you would have had to get them within 20 yards to be sure to get it. A friend of the family got 2 does in this year's special split season doe hunt that allows 2 doe to be taken without having to check the first one before getting the second. I got to use my winch to hoist one up to let as much of the blood drain as possible. Didn't take any pics of that for obvious reasons, didn't want to violate Shag's rules. But that was very handy to have. Also used it to pull a log out of the trail making a new access. I'm about 200 yards from connecting 2 ends of one trail. the last segment has a few snake-like bends to the creek in a deep ravine so driving in the creek would be mandatory. One thing that makes this a hazard is a waterfall about 4 feet high but in that section there is a flat to one side but has the worst brier thicket I've ever seen, maybe as much as 8 feet high so if a trail is cut through it, it may resemble a tunnel.

Also used the 4wheeler to set 2 tree stands and check the trail cams. Pisses me off a cheapie cam is getting all these great deer and coyote pics but a new, more expensive unit only catches birds and squirrels. Yep havin a blast, and really feelin it at the end of the day lol. Winch works great so far. Lifted the big doe no problem and for fun I ran it up till the hook fouled in the fork of the tree and lifted the front of the 4wheeler up. At 3000# rating I knew it should at least do that but it didn't even sound like it was under load at all.

You running a snatch block on it? I had one on mine to work on angles and double the pulling power if I needed it. Also cut a looped handle of one of those 1" ratchet straps and hung it off the hook with about 6" of tag line for pulling the cable out off the winch instead of handprint the hook and cable itself. Kind of a fad thing at the time really.

Yeah mine came with one of those pull straps, it's Harbor Freight so it's nothing nice, may ditch it. As for the snatch block I know I need one. I have one for the big truck rated to 18,000# so I'm sure I wont need that big bastard. I also have a couple others but they're only rated at 1,000# so I'm not sure if it would get ripped apart or not. It would be ok for hoisting deer, pulling the 4wheeler at little load, etc but not sure they would survive my stress test lol. Been so much crap going on lately I haven't had a chance to do much with it, just 1 day a week if I'm lucky.

No, gloves are much cheaper lol. Had a lot of fun yesterday, hunted a little till the wind got too bad, wanted to show brother-in-law the new trails I cut. He was game till that first drop-off into the creek of one of the new trails. He got through that then when we got to the next small, not steep at all hill he chickened out on me lol. He turned around and as I was going on out to get my climber stand I could hear him giving it hell trying to get up the creek bank. Our tires are the same size but my Swamp Lites are a little more aggressive than his Carlisle 489s, I don't have that much trouble getting up the bank. Anyway when I caught up to him at the fork of another trail I cut I asked him what happened and he said it got a little rough lol. I asked him if he wanted to check out the other trail, it wasn't as bad just a couple small banks and he was like maybe next time. Guess the 15 year old Foreman gets around better than I thought! Or is it all driver skill? :cool:

you trying to rip its head off? whats with the strap around its neck? it looks like you are pulling away from where the strap is anchored. haha

I think he had just taken that pic after getting that monster on there, hadn't tried to go anywhere yet. That would be funny though, struggle to get him on there then take off, forget the strap and pull him back off lol
