Got a 2000 TTR225 that's been giving me a ton of problems. Few years ago, the battery wouldn't hold a charge. Now, it's running like crap. It runs better every time I take it into get a carb clean, but I've been getting carb cleanings as often as I take a piss. It's costing way too much, and I can't figure out for the life of me how to remove my carb. Usually it wouldn't start, but once it had the carb cleaned it was fine.

Now, it'll start up with the choke out but I can't ride it until I let it warm it up after a long time probably 10 mins at the least. For the first 5 minutes, it'll begin to cut off when I give it gas. After the first 5 minutes, I can ride it but the ride is jerky as hell. I can hold the throttle at constantly, but the power will surge whenever the hell it wants.

I'll try to get a vid of it up this weekend... but any ideas as to what's causing this? I'm going to drain the tank and carb this weekend and fill it with SeaFoam then let it sit for a night. Drain it all out and put the gas in. Think it'll help?

Thanks in advanced guys.

You are letting gas sit in the carb too long and it's clogting up the jets. You need to clean it or have it cleaned. When you are done riding it turn the gas off and run the gas out of the carb. You should really try to start it every couple of weeks to prevent it from happening. The carb is pretty easy to remove and clean. I've never worked on the TTR but most bike are the same. There is a clamp on the air box side and the cylinder side. The throttle cable goes through the top of the Carb, which should unscrew revealing the slide. Once you loosen the clamps and remove the slide you can remove the Carb. From looking at pics you probably have to remone the seat and gas tank to get enough room to work. Hope that helps some. I usually clean my carbs with brake cleaner and some new gas.

Thanks man. I'm actually running the bike every week for a good 20-30 minutes. I'm just going to start draining the carb every time at this point. This must be my 10th carb cleaning in a year.

I have tried to get the carb off, and I can see it's just a few hoses and clamps but I'm afraid I'll screw it up.

Just remember how everything goes together and put it back the exact same way. Bikes are really easy to work on...if I can do it anyone can!!

Do you think the SeaFoam will do anything?

I've never used it but it seems like a motor/carb cleaner. That will help loosen up all the buildup in the Carb.

Been meaning to update yest but didn't have a chance. Just something to say about SeaFoam... that stuff is MAGIC. It didn't fix my issue completely, but I put some in the carb and let it burn off and I could immediately tell that it was running better. Less "jerk" when I give it throttle now. Also, idles a lot better. I'd recommend using SeaFoam every tank just to avoid having the carb issue. Great stuff.

so what ever happened to you dirt bike humvee?

Humvee21
11-21-2012, 01:54 AM
Seafoamed that hoe and it's running better than when I got it back in 2007. The guy I bought it from obviously did not take care of it (mechanically). A little pissed I overpaid for it, but it runs real good now after using seafoam and I am happy

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 02:41 AM
have you done any mods to it?

Humvee21
11-21-2012, 02:46 AM
Nope. I was actually hoping to sell it so I could get a Yamaha WR250R dual sport, but I got a bunch of low ballers so I figured I'll keep it. And now I got hooked onto guns so that's where all the money is going these days.... On top of that the Raptor is thirsty

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 03:02 AM
what are you asking for it?

Humvee21
11-21-2012, 03:04 AM
$1100

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 03:13 AM
how many hours on it?

Humvee21
11-21-2012, 03:14 AM
Not sure. I haven't kept track at all. It gets serviced every year though

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 03:18 AM
i guess the big question is, how hard has it been ridden?

Humvee21
11-21-2012, 03:23 AM
Not hard at all. I never taken it out to the track to tear it up. It has only seen trail riding and a very small track that I never pushed hard because I am still wobbly on the corners. Honestly, this bike has been dropped a few times but it's a dirtbike and when you're out trailriding you are bound to fall within 6 years

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 03:24 AM
i might be interested. green sticker?

Humvee21
11-21-2012, 03:27 AM
I am not familiar with that term

Humvee21
11-21-2012, 03:28 AM

SBA800
11-21-2012, 03:30 AM
damn californians

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 03:33 AM
means that it can be ridden year round. 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

Humvee21
11-21-2012, 03:34 AM
4 stroke. Yeah we don't have that sticker thing in GA

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 03:35 AM
just about every 4 stroke is green sticker here

SBA800
11-21-2012, 03:38 AM
so theres some bikes you cant ride all year? wtf?

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 11:53 AM
a red sticker means that only certain times they are allowed to be ridden at public parks or rec areas. private property there are no regulations...... unless your neighbors are assholes

SBA800
11-21-2012, 12:00 PM
wow thats pretty silly, whats the reasoning?

nosbusa
11-21-2012, 11:30 PM
it has to do with emissions. stupid ca laws. because im certain that there are more ohv's than there are beater vehicles on the road..........

aarons419
12-06-2012, 07:43 PM
I remember when they did that whole thing in CA. They went after two strokes because they were "bad for the environment" even though there wasn't any actual research to back it up. the tree huggers just hated the blue smoke that two strokes kicked out. Much the same way they hate diesels for the black smoke they put out, even though they are actually cleaner than gas engines.

SBA800
12-06-2012, 11:12 PM
cant win with greenies around.

aarons419
12-07-2012, 12:02 AM
Nope, they're pretty much the fun police. If it's fun it has to be bad for the environment.

nosbusa
12-07-2012, 01:30 AM
but yet old vehicles dont have to pass smog. go figure. they got more crap burning and leaking than an ohv would ever have. whens the last time you saw a guy fixing up his old beater car? he is putting oil in it because he has to. "oh, my car leaks (or burns) oil, no big deal" what the hell? but with an ohv, you are always making sure that thing is in perfect running order, no matter how old it is. idiot tree hugging dirt worshippers

aarons419
12-07-2012, 06:51 AM
Yep, you see tons of old cars belching blue smoke from worn out rings, or straight piped or whatever else, and yet, they go after the ohv crowd who is already dealing with noise regulations on top of everything else.

nosbusa
12-07-2012, 11:51 AM
ride your atv to work day........ that would piss of a few people

aarons419
12-08-2012, 12:46 AM
That would be a fun day. I rode my dirt bike to school a few times in high school. Definitely not licensed for the street either. Just flat out and hoping I didn't see any cops.

nosbusa
12-08-2012, 05:50 AM
do that here, and i guarantee you will get pulled over in less than 1 mile

aarons419
12-08-2012, 08:19 AM
The area I lived in was a really small town of about 1000 people. Think no stoplight kind of town. I lived about 20 miles from school, and there was a main highway, and then off to one side there was the "old" highway that ran along the edge of the valley and I'd just take that and pin it going 100. Stupid idea? Oh hell yes, but it was fun.

im tempted to ride my sled to work one day this winter.

Yeah just watch out for the Mounties.

SBA800
12-08-2012, 06:20 PM
the rcmp wont be an issues, its the city cops that would give me problems lol.

its not far to my building at all from a farmers field. cept its within city limits, so if someone phones to report me, and cop is in the area im buggered. may have to get someone with a truck to meet me outside the city and ride in lol

aarons419
12-08-2012, 09:07 PM
I say go all in and just try it.

if you get caught just tell them "I'm sorry officer, I didn't know I couldn't do that."

one day last year i oculd have used that excise. there was 2' of snow on the highways in some spots where it drifted in. 3 of the major highways were closed. was awesome.

nosbusa
01-31-2013, 02:07 AM
at least its easier to run from the cops that way....not that I would know.....
