See that? I just learn't sumptin new today, never heard that term. I used to make steel ones for my buddy's old sled, that was 20 years ago, chripes i'm getting old....

SBA800 10-16-2012 11:55 AM

even on some trails, if the lugs on the track are to big it can overheat. need that loose snow to cool it down.

89suburban 10-16-2012 12:54 PM

Ahh, so it acts as coolant too, even lube.

SBA800 10-16-2012 02:08 PM

yep. they have what they cal ice scratchers that will toss up snow into the track area for people who have overheating issues. they work great. ill probably grab some for this winter if i plan on riding trails at all.

89suburban 10-16-2012 03:51 PM

Man these things came a LOOOONNNNGG way since I sat my sorry ass on one, lol. Like 20 years ago I rode on a 600cc one with leaf springs on the front and I think that unit was a 70's model.

SBA800 10-16-2012 03:56 PM

yep its amazing how far they have come. and the price came with it haha

my old sled i was riding up until last year was a 1983 moto ski. with the leaf spring front like you mentioned. it blew my mind hopping on my new 2012 for the first ride

89suburban 10-16-2012 05:16 PM

I remember that thing roosting snow and spinning track with two of us on it. :)

SBA800 10-16-2012 05:40 PM

we had another old one, i think an 82, and it was a beast i tell ya. thing just flew. pin the throttle, and it would spin for a few seconds then take off like a rocket ship once it hit some hardpack

89suburban 10-16-2012 07:14 PM

This one was a pull start 3 cylinder. None of us ever wanted to start it, lol.

SBA800 10-16-2012 07:17 PM

i havent ever used a sled with electric start. i coulda had them put it on mine, but its not to bad starting it.

nosbusa 10-17-2012 01:47 AM

6.2's scrawny little ass yanking on a pull cord............ gotta be a funny sight.....

89suburban 10-17-2012 11:48 AM

The pull cord on this was actually a metal cable instead of rope and it always broke.

yeah i cant see metal lasting that long in the form of a pull start cord lol.
our old 83 is rope, but the recoil is so screwed up when you pull it, you gotta whack the canister its in to get it to recoil back so you can pull it again.
that thing is soooo messed its not even funny lol

nosbusa 10-18-2012 11:53 PM

well fuck me......... i need to join......... but i dont get more than 1 inch of snow here. about once a year when we get a really cold storm it will snow, but cant do shit with it.

SBA800 10-19-2012 12:07 AM

you need to move north then

nosbusa 10-19-2012 12:13 AM

i want to buy an igloo in the north pole.......... wife says no....

AK SNO RIDER 10-20-2012 01:44 AM

I am STOKED for winter. The wait is killing me! The sled is more or less ready to go and I want to ride NOW!

SBA800 10-20-2012 08:36 AM

mines almost ready. just need the damn shock fixed. but other than that, good to go. and if it snows before i get it fixed, don't matter its still rideable haha

nosbusa 10-20-2012 09:51 AM

....if you didnt quit your job..........

SBA800 10-20-2012 10:28 AM

i didnt... yet lol
ill never quit a job till i have another one lined up. i aint dumb lol

nosbusa 10-20-2012 10:42 AM

still raining up there?

SBA800 10-20-2012 10:43 AM

stopped midway through the day yesterday.
sposed to get colder the next few days. im looking forward to that

nosbusa 10-20-2012 10:58 AM

so you going to have ice first.......... do you steel stud your tires (sorry.... tyres)

SBA800 10-20-2012 11:18 AM

lol, tires, an no, i don't stud my tires.
and ice first is good.

nosbusa 10-20-2012 11:23 AM

you gotta post some vids of people slidding down the street mashing their brake pedal

SBA800 10-20-2012 11:38 AM

lol we dont do that here. we dont have drivers that are THAT dumb lol.

nosbusa 10-20-2012 11:44 AM

damn, i love watching those videos

SBA800 10-20-2012 11:46 AM

oh me to man. they are hilarious.

nosbusa 10-20-2012 11:53 AM

its funny watching people keep mashing the brakes while sliding on the ice. like thats going to really help. mash the gas instead you idiot, but i guess its peoples natural reaction to try to stop, rather than go when they are sliding

SBA800 10-20-2012 11:59 AM

ha yeah they have no idea what they're doing so they panic and stomp on the brakes.

ive never gotten in an accident, or been in panic mode while driving in winter. only went in the ditch once, and was on purpose. people just need to learn how to drive lol
