I won't be like all the other people out there who freak out and call you an idiot for wanting a 600 for a first bike but I will say this....
If you get a 600cc supersport such as an R6, CBR, or GSX-R, you will have to be VERY careful. Even just being a 600 they are
extremely fast. A good friend who has been riding for years just wrecked his CBR after forgetting just how quick they are. He grabbed too much throttle without thinking and wheelied right over backwards.
I started on a 500. Great to learn on, but it did get old fast. With that said, it is definitely possible to learn on a 600 supersport. They are perfectly manageable and you won't get sick of them either. But they will bite your head off in a heartbeat if you at any point don't give them the respect they deserve.
